HIGHLAND VALLEY STUDIOS

HISTORY

The Mission  “To facilitate artists in pursuit of their careers”

Highland Valley Studios is located in the country foothills of northeast San Diego
off of Highway 67 and Highland Valley Ranch Road. There’s a constant fresh breeze blowing and
it has sweeping panoramic views set against the backdrops of the Cuyamaca and Palomar Mountain ranges.

There are many other neighboring ranches with horses, cows, ostrich, buffalo and more to discover.
The country town of Ramona just 5 miles away offers many fun restaurants, historic sites, antique stores and hotels.

The location of Highland Valley Studios couldn’t be more perfect for artist.

The “Ranch” has one main home (where the owners of the Ranch, Dave and Molly Begent live).
The outbuildings include some guest cottages and 3 barns.

Highland Valley Ranch House
The workshops and open studios being offered
will be held in these barns.

They are large and can accommodate many artists.

In addition, there are the grounds themselves
that offer a variety of painting subject matter.
Many more painting locations surround you.

To the west you have Lake Hodges and just beyond that
in a short 30 minute drive you have the
very beautiful La Jolla coastline.

To the south 30 minutes away, you have
Downtown San Diego and Balboa Park.

To the East the beautiful drive with it’s many painting opportunities will bring you to the historic very painterly town of Ramona
and then Julian, with it’s Apple Orchards and baked pies.
The Studio’s mission is to facilitate and enrich artists–
teachers & students–in their pursuit of their artistic careers.
The emphasis is the instruction of representational arts.

The studio is open year round offering “open studios”
for life drawing, figurative painting, sculpting
and instructional workshops.

We will draw on a pool of nationally
acclaimed artists for these workshops.

What is beginning as a small step for the artist,
will be steered towards ranking alongside America’s foremost facilities for fine arts.
